Over 28,500 call for environmental sustainability to be placed at the heart of European fisheries policy

Over 28,500 people have signed the petition launched at the start of European Fish Week asking EU Commissioner Maria Damanaki to promote environmental sustainability as the overarching principle of the future Common Fisheries Policy. Thank you for your support. The petition will be presented to the Commissioner on 13 September.

Global fish stocks like bluefin tuna are in decline; in Europe over 80 percent are overfished and a third are outside safe limits. The European Union and its member states have failed to manage fisheries responsibly on our behalf.
