Consultation on the reform of the Common Fisheries Policy

Consultation on the reform of the Common Fisheries Policy

The public consultation on the reform of the EU Common Fisheries Policy (CFP) ran from April 21 to December 31 2009. Any individual or group could contribute. Read the European Commission's report on the results of the consultation (pdf; 156 KB).

European Commissioner Joe Borg called for a “whole-scale fundamental reform” of the CFP. In order for the CFP to represent the broader interests of all stakeholders it was imperative that submissions reflect diverse interests.

OCEAN2012 took up the challenge, submitting its own contribution and assisting members in doing the same.

"The aim is to gather views from all those with an interest in the future of Europe's fisheries: fishermen, fish processors, retailers, environmentalists, consumers, taxpayers - in fact, every EU citizen, on their visions for the future of Europe's fisheries and their ideas on how those visions can become reality. The mosaic of views that will be collected will pave the way for a substantial overhaul of the way that EU fisheries are managed."
