Restaurants are significant traders in high value but often overfished or even endangered fish species. Labeling informs consumers of responsibly fished seafood in stores. Rating retailers for sustainability has brought about sweeping changes in sourcing policies. So why not also rate restaurants?

During the dinner, the award winning British journalist and fish2fork campaigner, Charles Clover and Jeremy Percy (New Under Ten Fishermen Association, an OCEAN2012 member) provoked an engrossing debate on the role of policy, consumer participation, labeling and rating in delivering responsible management of fisheries and the seafood industry.

With the reform of the Common Fisheries Policy (CFP) currently debated in the European Parliament, MEPs have the unique opportunity to enact a strong legislative framework which rewards responsible fisheries practices and guarantees consumers a minimum standard of seafood products in the EU.
